The origins of Kobalt Associates began with a journey onto to the Internet in 1995 with the launch of the first major E-commerce site for the outdoor retailer, Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI). Working through the dot.com heyday in the late 90's as the leadership behind Gear.com which became part of Overstock.com, and working with Amazon.com on several projects including their early auction site, provided even more experience into this maturing business medium. Many in the group became part of efforts that helped traditional retailers offer their goods on the web such as the Southwest's largest pool retailer, Paddock Pools.
